Decade themes are common. It DOES irk me when I turn up to themed parties and people are dressed less in what is from that era and more in what they think looks good on them. This Sixties party, however, did me proud. Bringing back the Summer of Love.
Music
This is the most important part of the Sixties Theme. Think: Beatles, Rolling Stones, Hendrix, Beach Boys, Jopline, Gaye, Orbison, Supremes. Throw in Hair, because although not from the 60's - it is very 60's based and reminds everyone of that time. Oh! And also. Have you heard? You haven't heard? It was my understanding that everyone had heard... a well a - bird bird bird, b-bird is the word. Bird, bird, bird. B-birds the word.
Decorations:
Lennon, Monroe, Kombis. We also created our own private Abbey Road by using pieces of white cardboard across the driveway.

Costumes:
Hippie costumes are relatively easy. Most people wore clothes they had from the opshops. Lots of people wore fun wigs, especially the guys. Novelty glasses can be found at party stores. If you are lucky you can find peace-sign novelty items. Use cheap fake flowers to put everywhere, in your hair. As part of my costume I created a kombi van out of a cardboard box. There was a Marilyn Monroe at our Sixties party - White dress (opshop), Monroe wig (found at a party store). Watch out - cardboard kombi vans are easily broken; and also - hippies with facepaint and wine is not a good mix.
